Ever wondered where your phone is and found it in the fridge? Of course it’s normal to be distracted or over tired and misplace or forget the name of something. If it’s happening a little too often for your liking, though, it can be a bit disconcerting.
Hormones play a vital role in brain health – as they do in everything – and the recent story about dementia being misdiagnosed as a menopause-related issue was quite worrying if you’re already struggling with brain fog-type symptoms and now thinking about the likelihood of neurodegenerative conditions.
As oestrogen levels drop in perimenopause and menopause, it is very common to experience brain fog and mild memory loss and therefore is a ‘normal’ occurrence as such. That said, always talk to your GP or hormone doctor about symptoms you’re experiencing and whether treatment may be helpful for you – whether that’s to manage symptoms or as a preventative measure against future issues.
HRT or BHRT (bio–identical hormone replacement therapy) is generally found to have a positive impact on brain fog, memory issues and overall cognitive function and may even potentially reduce the risk of alzheimers in later years.
As always, though, it’s important to see a medical professional to discuss your own health and what would be most helpful for you individually.
