Waterhouse Young’s Dr Saira Vasdev shares with Latest in Beauty her solutions for the most common skincare dilemmas.
Acne
Adult acne is a common complaint in premenopausal women and is also problematic for men who suffer with excess sebum production. It is important to treat active inflammatory acne as if left uncontrolled it can lead to scarring and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation in later life. At Waterhouse Young we provide a bespoke treatment plan depending on the type and grade of acne you have. This may include a combination of topical and oral agents to control excess oil production, bacterial overgrowth and inflammation. A course of HydraFacial’s tailored to acneic skin are beneficial as they detoxify and hydrate the skin whilst blue and red LED light therapy work to down-regulate oil and bacteria, and calm inflammation. In more advanced cases the VI Peel Purify may be indicated to resurface the skin and control breakouts.
Sun damage
Sun exposure is the biggest accelerator of premature skin ageing and manifests as uneven skin tone with pigmented spots as well as textural changes. At Waterhouse Young we perform a computerised skin analysis to assess the depth and extent of sun damage and use targeted therapies to correct the visible signs of photo ageing. Hyperpigmented lesions or “sun spots” respond well to combination topical Vitamin C and Retinoic acid which act to accelerate the skin cell renewal process and exfoliate the skin. A skin resurfacing treatment such as the VI Peel (a medium-deep chemical peel) or energy based treatment such as radiofrequency fractional skin resurfacing (FSR) may be indicated to improve the tone and texture of the skin as well as boosting collagen production.
Redness
Rosacea is a common inflammatory skin condition and is characterised by a persistent redness or flushing of the skin and may be associated with acne-like pimples, dilated spider-like veins, roughened texture and discomfort. It usually appears in women in their 30’s and 40’s and is a common cause of distress due to its unpredictable nature. Following consultation regarding modification of lifestyle factors which may exacerbate symptoms (i.e. sun exposure, alcohol, spicy foods) treatment may include topical antibiotic therapy which acts to dampen the inflammatory process. Antioxidant and SPF are key to stabilising symptoms as they act synergistically to protect the skin from environmental triggers such as UVA/UVB. A prescriptive medical facial such as the exclusive Waterhouse Young HydraHeal™ is excellent for restoring hydration, improving texture and calming inflammation using red LED light.
Fine lines and wrinkles
As we age the skin loses collagen and elastic fibres which result in fine lines, wrinkles and sagging of the skin. Prevention is key and skin health can be optimised with a proactive anti-ageing skin care regime to protect the skin from environmental damage and boost levels of collagen stimulation. A bespoke skin care regime combined with specific anti-wrinkle treatments will work in synchrony to provide beautifully natural and age-appropriate results. Injections with Botulinum toxin A or “Botox” works to soften the contraction of certain facial muscles which refresh the face and prevent progression of fine lines to deeper more “static” wrinkles. Common areas that are treated include frown lines, forehead furrows and crow’s feet. Dermal fillers can be used to restore volume and contour to the face, restoring a youthful and revitalised appearance.
Unwanted hair
Men and women alike suffer from unwanted hair and most conventional treatments can be painful and time consuming. At Waterhouse Young we use the Soprano ICE laser for a one-stop solution for safe and effective hair removal. Suitable for all skin tones including tanned skin, Soprano ICE is a time efficient and virtually painless method of removing unwanted hair on any part of the body. Book in at Waterhouse Young for a medical consultation and test patch and start your journey towards beautifully smooth hair-free skin!
