Some of the best skincare treatments available increase photosensitivity, so the colder winter months are the perfect time to try them. Here are our favourites.
Winter’s the perfect time to treat your skin, and if you suffer from certain skin conditions (such as hyperpigmentation), it’s a good idea to take advantage of the sun’s sabbatical to tackle the issue now. And, while all the treatments we offer at Waterhouse Young are safe and effective all year round, if you’re not too good at remembering to reapply your high-factor SPF, treatments which increase photosensitivity can be especially suited for winter. Here’s how to take advantage of the colder months to kick-start your skincare.
Achieve Smooth, Even Skin with the PCA Peel
Our individually tailored PCA Peels are a popular skin-resurfacing treatment – a potent blend of active ingredients, the peel penetrates deep below the surface of the skin, offering transformative results. Effective for anti-ageing, pore reduction, treating melasma, hyperpigmentation, acne and acne scarring; the PCA Peel involves minimal downtime (2-3 days) and is safe for all skin types and skin areas (including the eye area, chest and hands).
We offer several formulations, carefully tailored to achieve your desired results, and our PCA Peel Precision Plus is specially formulated to correct hyperpigmentation. With boosted concentrations of active ingredients including retinoic acid, vitamin C and salicylic acid (as well as skin lightening agents such as kojic acid and hydroquinone), it penetrates deeply to supress the enzymes which cause hyperpigmentation and lightens cells.
The PCA Peel can also be used to tackle a common annoyance – winter acne. The drying effects of cold air and central heating can lead some skin types to produce more sebum, causing clogging and breakouts – and the VI Peel is a great way of quickly eliminating acne from the skin. If desired, you can then benefit from treatments such as Dermaroller, which can repair acne scars, hyperpigmentation, stretch marks, ageing and sun damage, but isn’t suitable for use on active acne.
Anti-Ageing Pick-Me-Ups for Dull Winter Skin
There’s no doubt that winter skin can lose its lustre – flaking and dryness are common throughout the colder months, which is why we recommend that you don’t neglect your exfoliation. We prefer gentle chemical exfoliation to manual exfoliation, which can scratch and damage the skin – which is why we love SkinCeuticals Blemish + Age Cleansing Gel, which uses glycolic and salicylic acids to exfoliate, smooth and brighten. But if you’re looking for something a little more in-depth, a series of HydraFacials is the perfect way to promote healthy skin throughout the whole year – brightening, firming, anti-ageing and adding instant radiance, it’s the ultimate antidote to lacklustre winter skin.
As well as taking advantage of winter’s calmer months to treat your skin to some aesthetic treatments, it’s also important to keep up a good skincare regime at home – so make sure you’re drinking plenty of water, eating plenty of fruit & veg, and not neglecting your SPF. Till then – wrap up warm!
