What happens first?

Before we carry out any treatment, we will ask you to book an initial consultation with one of our aesthetic doctors. Here we will take a full medical history and, if required, carry out a Visia computerised skin analysis that allows us to examine magnified 3D images of your face.

We will also carry out a visual assessment of your skin and talk to you about your needs, hopes and expectations. Having gathered all this valuable information, we will then have a better understanding of which treatment you need to achieve the best outcome.

Will you suggest other skin rejuvenation treatments?

It may be that you come to us with a specific treatment in mind however, if on assessment, we feel an alternative might be more appropriate then we’ll let you know. Whatever the case, we will very much consider your individual needs and give you an honest assessment, including realistic expectations of the outcomes of your treatment.

Which dermal fillers do you use?

At WY we use a variety of dermal filler brands in order to give our doctors flexibility on their product selection, as it is important to select the right product for you and the result you are trying to achieve. Although dermal fillers are all made from hyaluronic acid, they work in different ways and have different properties.

What areas can be treated with dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers can be used for facial contouring, increasing volume and structural balance. Typically we redefine the jawline to reduce jowls, softly enhance the cheeks to lift and restore, naturally redefine the lips and lift the under eye to improve dark circles. However, it all depends on you and your needs which can all be discussed following assessment.

Do dermal fillers hurt?

Most dermal fillers these days contain some form of local anaesthetic. This, combined with topical anaesthetic, makes for a surprisingly comfortable procedure.

What is the downtime from dermal fillers?

Accepted Answer

As with any non-surgical injectable treatment there are associated side effects such as bruising and swelling. With certain dermal fillers we would expect some swelling which can last for a few days. Bruising can happen (although not expected) so we prefer to err on the side of caution and schedule your appointment where you have some time afterwards just in case (especially if it is your first filler treatment).

To reduce this, it is best to avoid drinking alcohol and taking omega-3 supplements for a couple of days beforehand as both can thin your blood. If you are prone to bruising it might be wise to take some arnica tablets before and after your filler injection to minimise the risk but it is not essential.

If you look online there are some scary stories where necrosis has happened. This complication is where filler treatments have been misplaced and injected directly into a vein. This is extremely rare and highlights the importance of seeing someone who has sound facial anatomy knowledge. At WY we have never had a case of this but know how to manage it should it arise by dissolving the dermal filler.

When should I see results from my dermal filler treatment?

One of the many benefits of dermal fillers is that you will see the result immediately after your treatment, although you should allow time for any swelling to subside to see the full outcome.

Will friends/family be able to tell that I’ve had ‘something’ done?

As with all of our injectable treatments, we take a ‘less is more’ approach to filler injections, treating patients conservatively to achieve natural looking, balanced results.

Following treatment, many of our patients tell us how others have commented on how well rested and refreshed they look – the healthiest possible version of themselves. We think that’s the ultimate outcome and testament to the precision and skill of our team.

Will everything be done in the one dermal filler treatment?

Although we understand the wanting for quick results, when it comes to filler injections it can be better to be treated in stages. We do not need to inject much hyaluronic acid to make a difference, so it is best to have a treatment plan such as starting with the mid face followed by the lower face. These considerations will be discussed during your consultation.

How long will my dermal filler treatment last?

It varies depending on the individual, but generally dermal filler treatments will last for six to nine months. As dermal fillers are gradually broken down and absorbed by the body, most people return for another treatment before the visible results have gone.

Why are dermal filler treatments expensive?

The aesthetic industry is sadly unregulated, dermal fillers are not on prescription and almost anyone can attend a course to learn how to administer these products. Facial anatomy is detailed and complex and needs to be understood to avoid complications.

Dermal filler products vary in quality and effectiveness. This is your face and you need to know that you are going to be looked after before, during and after your dermal fillers treatment.
